This time of year is a time of creating goals and plans and resolutions. I’m all for this, but so often we point ourselves toward what we think we should do instead of letting what’s really important guide us. We get bogged down in the logistics of our lives and the “have to” dos and the “should” dos instead of making space for what we really want.

Today, take a few minutes to make a list of things you want in your life now or or in the future. Think about:

  • Experiences you want to have
  • Things you’d like to own
  • Things you want to learn
  • How you want to feel
  • What the structure of your day looks like
  • How you fill your time

Grab a notebook or your computer and get your ideas down. You can just list items or add as much detail to any part of your list as you like.

If you have a little more time, write about why you want these things. Why do they matter to you? Understanding what you want and why it matters helps you make choices and take actions to have more of what you want in your life!
